Job Description:
The KRS Division is responsible for Aerospace and Industrial
seal applications with a global responsibility for Sales,
Manufacturing, Business development, Product and Process
Development. The KRS Division has a customer portfolio that
includes all major players in the Aerospace industry. Our business
is fully customer focused, with products specifically designed for
a jet engine application, produced in small quantities and small
lots on highly flexible equipment. Extreme product range
fragmentation, complex product design, very high-quality standards
and traceability requirements are the peculiarity of the KRS
Division. We are looking for a dynamic Materials Lab Manager to
join our team in Hanover, PA. This position is responsible for
efficient and accurate operation of materials testing laboratory.
Provides technical guidance to production for special processes. Is
also responsible for overseeing incoming materials conform to
purchase specifications. Issues certifications on outgoing
shipments. Duties and responsibilities are (including but not
limited to): - Oversees operation of a variety of mechanical,
physical, chemical, and metallographic test equipment and heat
treating ovens in the lab. - Creates and manages procedures to
govern the proper operation and maintenance of the equipment.
Ensures equipment is maintained and remains capable of performing
necessary tests without undue breakdowns. Evaluates suitability of
new equipment and tests to their purpose. - Maintains necessary
records, inventory of supplies, schedules and performs preventive
maintenance. - Develops and maintains a systemic methodology for
paperwork flow within the materials lab function. Maintains
adherence to the procedures related to record keeping, sample
storage and testing status and communicates those parameters to
internal and external customers as needed. - Confirms that incoming
piston ring and seal materials conform to specifications. -
Establishes and maintains a system for timely evaluation of
materials. Provides written instructions to govern the operation of
the system. - Drives process improvements to meet department goals.
- Prepares certifications for materials shipped from the piston
ring and seal plants, when required. - Establishes and maintains a
system for certification processing from request to issuance.
Creates metrics to measure system effectiveness and applies
continuous improvement techniques to results in acceptable customer
delivery times. - Investigates and writes reports on materials and
process deviations. - Provides written reports to interested
parties on causes for failures related to materials. Assists
Engineering and other departments in the analysis of failures. -
Assists with outsourcing projects. - Evaluates alternate material
suppliers for compliance with specifications. Provides advise for
processing materials to alternate suppliers. Maintains records of
supplier conformance with Kaydon specifications. - Supports
production with technical assistance. - Provides advise and
technical support to the heat treatment function. Conducts
expedited tests where required to ensure on-time delivery. Explains
decisions on material acceptance so non-technical personnel can
understand the reasons behind the decision. Provides training to
technical support personnel on request. - Support customer audits
for materials laboratory functions and special processes. -
Supervise materials laboratory staff. Job Requirements: -
Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science or Metallurgy or equivalent
experience. - Minimum 5 years' experience working in manufacturing
environment in metallurgical role. - Minium 3 years' supervisory
experience in a lab environment. - Knowledge of materials tests,
interpretation of results of tests (including hardness,
metallographic examination of specimens, mass spectrometry,
specimen preparation, and others as may be relevant to the position
responsibilities described above). - Regular use and understanding
of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Ability to act effectively in a team environment and to work
independently in a production lab environment. - Position will be
100% on-site in Hanover, PA; no remote work available. - Due to the
