Job Description:
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery,
and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words,
we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS
data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power,
and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual
access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most
challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the
supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to
help. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network
engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations
managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people
across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and
security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest
possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive
culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to
completion. As an Amazon Fire Protection Engineer, you will provide
full life-cycle support to AWS Data Centers from design inception
through construction. In this role you will influence all aspects
of fire protection design and construction for our global fleet of
operational data centers. This includes fire suppression, fire
detection, fire alarm, and mass notification systems, as well as
fire-resistant construction and life safety. You will work with
internal and external teams to define, design, detail, and document
the various fire protection features that our facilities require,
using both prescriptive and performance-based field,
troubleshooting, and best practice approaches. As an Owner, you
will strive to ensure the fire protection features of our buildings
protect our people and keep our customer’s data safe and
uninterrupted over the life of the building. We expect you to
contribute your expertise to the continual improvement of our fire
protection design standards. Key job responsibilities As the team’s
subject matter expert, you will ensure that contractors have the
information they need to retrofit our data centers the way we
expect them to, and that our operations teams are well equipped to
operate and maintain them as needed to meet our goals. As part of
this role you will work with internal and external stakeholders,
including design, construction, commissioning, operations, vendors,
and other service providers, as well as local building and fire
officials. You will be part of a global team, and you will be an
integral part of our work to change the world through technology.
You will be the ‘go to’ engineering resource for your region when
technical advice is needed, and will use your subject matter
expertise and engage with diverse teams to: • Troubleshoot and
conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for site/equipment failures. •
Own the design for existing data center upgrades and
design-solutions, which add capacity, improve availability, and
increase efficiency. • Lead, Review, and approve designs for
existing leased/owned data center upgrades which improve
availability/efficiency. • Interface with internal data center
design engineering team, server hardware team, environmental health
and safety team to promote standards that maintain consistency and
reliability in services delivered. • Work on concurrent projects,
sometimes in multiple geographical regions. • Produce reports
outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediations •
Support construction and turnover. A day in the life Each day you
will interact with different teams responsible for all aspects of
the data centers. You will prioritize your activities to support
data center capacity availability and safety focusing on the
actions that are most impactful. You will have the opportunity to
work on projects locally and globally. We have an immediate opening
for a Fire Protection Engineer in Northern Virginia Region. If you
